Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. In 1981 the Glessers settled in Golden, Colorado and introduced the first Spyderco folding knife. That knife was a pioneer of its kind and had a round hole in the blade for one-hand opening, a clip on the handle and a serrated edge for heavier cutting performance. These functions revolutionised the knife industry and literally determined the shape of the modern pocket knife.
Since then, Spyderco has steadily grown to become one of the leaders in the industry. In addition to a global distribution network and manufacturing resources in the US, Japan, Taiwan, Italy and China, our company also has an impressive portfolio of patents, trademarks and industrial awards to its name. More importantly, there are countless dedicated users around the world. And we are grateful to those customers. We are loyal to them.
The round hole makes it easier for the blade to swing open. Unlike thumb knobs, discs and other one-hand opening attachments, the hole offers a larger surface area for greater reliability and does not interfere with the cutting action of the blade. The round hole has become an iconic symbol of our brand and thus serves as a user-friendly alternative to the traditional nail notch. Spyderco works with state-of-the-art materials and the designs are focused on good ergonomics and functionality.
One of our well-known knives is the Bradley Bowie, made of an incredibly strong steel. The fully flat blade has a pronounced "belly" for precise control and a long straight swing, and the lower protective cap is integrated to protect the user's hand. The Bradley Bowie is a unique blend of expert design and state-of-the-art metalworking.
Hunting & bushcraft
